(person, 1946–) A controversial personality and former Silicon Valley entrepreneur, John McAfee, well-known as the developer of the McAfee anti-virus software company, returned to the San Francisco Bay Area on April 24, 2004, for a rare appearance. McAfee was there to headline a dynamic weekend experience—not for a computer security conference but for one named “Journey into The Self with Two Masters—John McAfee and Yogi Amrit Desai.” At this event, McAfee was joined by Yogi Amrit Desai, the founder of Kripalu Yoga and the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. Yogi Amrit Desai is considered to be one of the earliest pioneers of yoga in the United States. McAfee left Silicon Valley in the early 1990s. He currently resides in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, far from the fast-paced, high-tech, boom-and-bust scene of which he is considered to be one of the pioneers. In recent years, John founded Relational Yoga and the Relational Yoga Mandiram in Woodland Park, Colorado. He has been teaching self-discovery and breath-work techniques for more than fifteen years. McAfee has written life-change books such as The Secrets of the Yamas and Into the Heart of Truths. McAfee’s high-tech career self-destructed in March 1992 when the Michelangelo virus failed to destroy the cyber world as he had predicted. Consequently, McAfee Associates Inc. first demoted the then Chief Executive Officer to Chief Technology Officer. The company then eliminated his company presence entirely. Rumors place McAfee’s “golden parachute” buyout from McAfee Associates Inc. at or near $100 million. PR Web. John McAfee: From High Tech to Ancient Tech-nique.
