survivorship bias
survivorship bias Finance Definition
A
situation in which failed companies are excluded from performance studies
because they no longer exist. The results of a research study that uses
survivorship bias may be skewed because only companies that were successful
enough to survive are included in the study. In particular, this bias may occur
with mutual fund performance if a poorly performing fund is combined into
another fund in the same group.
