platinum group metals (PGM) Finance Definition
Platinum and palladium, when the term is used in the U.S. financial markets. However, there are four other members of PGM: rhodium, ruthenium, osmium, and iridium. All six metals have unique chemical and physical qualities that make them vital industrial materials. Platinum is used in jewelry, along with industrial uses; palladium is used primarily for industrial purposes, such as manufacturing cars.
