country code Telecom Definition
In the context of the public switched telephone network (PSTN), the leading one-, two-, or three-digit number associated with an international call. Numbering plan administration (NPA) is the responsibility of the ITU-T and is standardized in E.164. The ITU-T assigns the country codes, for example, 1 for the United States, 27 for South Africa, and 352 for Luxembourg. See also E.164, ITU-T, NPA, and PSTN.
