Of Derbyshire Gritstone neither sex has horns.
The stream flows away to the left in a passage of roughly circular cross-section, having many gritstone boulders on the floor.
To my knowledge this is the only natural gritstone crag in the country from which the coast can be seen.
To the North, East and West lies the Dark Peak which has peat bogs, large expanses of moorland and gritstone outcrops.
The morphology of the carboniferous uplands is largely controlled by the presence of a series of gritstone caprocks.
