(botany) Any of several plants of the genusStachys, including the hedge woundwort and the marsh woundwort. Formerly often used in poultices for wounds.
Many herbs have had the power of curing all diseases attributed to them, and have hence had the name of "all-heal"; such have been, among others, the mistletoe, the woundwort (Stachys palustris), the yarrow or milfoil, and the great valerian.
Reference to downy woundwort was subsequently removed from Wren (1988 ).
Species such as dog's mercury, enchanter's nightshade, hedge woundwort and sanicle can also be found.
In the damper parts fleabane and marsh woundwort can be seen.
The broom has finished flowering in the entrance and hedge woundwort is popping up around the site, especially in Shady Place.
