Rudolph died at Spires on the 15th of July 1291 and was buried in the cathedral of that city.
He in turn referred it to the bishops of Spires and Worms, who gave decision in March 1514 in favour of Reuchlin.
Physician, scholar and adventurer, was born at Spires in 1635.
The first choir was burned down in 1213, but was rebuilt in 1242 at the same time as the transept, and is a superb specimen of pointed Gothic. There are five towers with spires, which give the outside an impressive appearance, and much has been done towards removing the squalid buildings that formerly concealed the cathedral.
In the design of spires Wren showed much taste and wonderful power of invention.
