Origin of taekwondo

  • From Korean 태권도 (taegwondo) (跆拳道). (tae, “to kick or destroy with the foot”). (kwon, “to punch with the fist”). (do, “way”). Hence, taekwondo is loosely translated as "the way of kicking and punching".
