Origin of brahmanism

  • Built from brahmin, which is an anglicization of Sanskrit brāhmaṇa (vernacular variants thereof). Introduced in 1816 as Brahmenism by George S. Faber (OED). Current spelling variants are Brahminism besides Brahmanism.
