Some modern Chinese astrologers have begun using the solar calendar.
The Chinese New Year Day is based on the Chinese lunar calendar, whereas the Chinese Year of the (insert appropriate animal - in 2009 it's the Ox) is based on the Chinese solar calendar.
One important fact to keep in mind is that the Chinese lunar new year occurs somewhere between January 21 and February 21, not on January first as found in the Western solar calendar.
The religious calendar is 260 days long, the solar calendar is 365 days long and the long count calendar lasts for 5,125 years.
Chinese astrology is based not on the solar calendar like western astrology, but on the lunar calendar.
