lumpenproletariat
(lŭmˌpən-prōˌlĭ-târˈē-ət, lo͝omˌ-)
noun- The lowest, most degraded stratum of the proletariat. Used originally in Marxist theory to describe those members of the proletariat, especially criminals, vagrants, and the unemployed, who lacked class consciousness.
