Racemic Acid Definition

A transparent, colorless, crystalline compound occurring in nature with d-tartaric acid: it is an optically inactive isomer of tartaric acid.

A form of tartaric acid, C₄ H₆ O₆ , that is composed of equal portions of dextrorotatory and levorotatory components, is not optically active, and is sometimes found in grape juice during the making of wine.
