Floyd were always lumped in with that whole ' 70s prog rock scene.
Their influences are far reaching, from 1970's prog rock to death metal to hardcore punk and even to jazz, and the band has been associated with acts in the nu metal scene including Pantera and Slipknot.
Stewart Copeland, drummer for The Police and the band's founder, had previously been in prog rock band Curved Air, but he was fascinated by the scene that was growing up around the punk scene and wanted to be a part of it.
