Any of various halocarbons, esp. those containing bromine, used in fire extinguishers, fertilizers, etc. and thought to harm the ozone layer.
Any of several compounds consisting of one or two carbon atoms combined with bromine and one or more other halogens. Halons are gases and are used as fire-extinguishing agents. They are between three and ten times more destructive to the ozone layer than CFCs are.
This has resulted in the search for a replacement to halon in firefighting appliances.
Halon fire extinguishers must not be disposed of in domestic rubbish.
The principal rivers in the district are the Wainganga, and its tributaries, the Bagh, Nahra and Uskal; a few smaller streams, such as the Masmar, the Mahkara, &c.; and the Banjar, Halon and Jamunia, tributaries of the Nerbudda, which drain a portion of the upper plateau.
