A device that is designed to read and write information on a moving magnetic surface, as on a disk or drum, while being supported above the surface by a thin cushion of air.
A read/write head that "flies" over a magnetic disk. The heads are attached to a slider, which is a block of material that acts as an airfoil. The slider's shape and contour, which is designed for a particular disk speed, determine how high it flies. See flying height.
