The definition of a clinical trial is a research study that is done under rigid circumstances to test of a new drug, treatments or tool in order to determine if it is safe and effective for humans.

When a new diet drug is tested on people to see if it works and if there are any adverse side-effects, this is an example of a clinical trial.
