a bitter, white, crystalline glycoside, CHO, obtained from the root and bark of certain fruit trees: used experimentally to cause glycosuria because it inhibits cellular absorption of glucose
also phloridzin phlo·rid′·zin (flō rid′zin) or phlorhizin phlo·rhi′·zin (-rī′zin)
