noun pl. caryopses -·op′·ses′ (-sēz′) or caryopsides -·op′·si·des′ (-sə dēz′)
a small, dry, one-seeded fruit in which the ovary wall remains joined with the seed in a single grain, as in barley, wheat, corn, rice, etc.
