Secretase Definition

sēkrə-tās, -tāz
Any of three subtypes of a protease located in cell membranes of the brain. In Alzheimer's disease, a secretase (designated beta) degrades amyloid precursor proteins into fragments that accumulate to form beta-amyloid plaques.
