Origin of hanja

From Korean 한자 (hanja, “Chinese characters”, 漢字), from Middle Chinese 漢 (xàn "Han dynasty", "China") + 字 (dzì "[written] character") (compare Japanese kanji 漢字, Mandarin hànzì 汉字, Vietnamese Hán tự).
