Noun

(plural control verbs)

  1. (linguistics) A verb which takes multiple arguments, one of which is another verb, such that one of the control verb's arguments (possibly its subject) is semantically both an argument of the control verb and an argument of the other verb.
Usage notes
  1. Some authors generalize this definition and use control verb to mean raising verb
