The Goths across the Danube, passed beyond the Rhine and occupied north-eastern Gaul; Ripuarians of the Rhine establishing themselves on the Sambre and the Meuse, and Salians in Belgium, as far as the great fortified highroad from Bavai to Cologne.
Of the law of the Ripuarians; the 35 MSS.
On analysis, the law of the Ripuarians, which contains 89 chapters, falls into three heterogeneous divisions.
The Salians inhabited the sea-coast, whereas the Ripuarians dwelt on the banks of the river Rhine.
These Ripuarians must have comprised a certain number of Frankish tribes, such as the Ampsivarii and the Bructeri.
