- any of the sections into which the Pentateuch is divided for reading during a year in the synagogue on the Sabbath
- any of various selections from the Pentateuch for reading on the holy days
- any of the subsections into which such sections are divided
Etymology: Heb pārāshāh, lit., an explanation: akin to perish > pharisee
