Referring to something (e.g., a device, machine, system, or program) that can be used with or is interoperable with an earlier generation, model, or version.
Used by arrangement with John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
Refers to hardware or software that is compatible with earlier versions of the product. Also called "downward compatible." Contrast with forward compatible.
