  • Of Zulu origin perhaps from Zulu vuvu imitative word expressing the idea of swelling up (perhaps in reference to the puffing out of the cheeks when blowing the vuvuzela) or akin to -vuvu in isivuvu bullroarer, and imitative of the vuvuzela's sound
