A similar disease marked by defects in the long bones of nonhuman mammals, especially cattle and rabbits, or of birds with Rous sarcoma.

An inherited disorder of bone resorption that results in abnormally dense, brittle bones that are easily fractured, and including a severe infantile form, characterized by bone marrow obliteration, growth retardation, bony defects, anemia, spleen and liver enlargement, and cranial nerve entrapment that can lead to blindness and deafness, and a benign form of late adolescence or adulthood that is often marked by pain and cranial or peripheral neuropathy.
