The porters of the town are all Kurds, the river-men Chaldaean Christians.
Kurds live upon the Commagenian plains here and there, as also in the northern trans-Euphratean plains.

In general the attitude of the Albanians in the north-eastern districts towards the Slavonic peasantry may be compared with that of the Kurds towards the Armenians.
