- (computing) A copy of all or part of a disk drive retained for backup or replication purposes.
disk image - Computer Definition
A file that contains a copy of a hard disk or optical disk, copied bit for bit from the original. The image is used to replicate its entire contents to another disk, and the destination disk is an exact duplicate of the original, including all data, free space and slack space.
