Colossus of Rhodes

(kə-lŏsˈəs)

A huge statue of Apollo located at the entrance to the harbor of Rhodes. Built c. 280 B.C. and later destroyed by an earthquake, it was about 37 m (120 ft) high and was one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
