Belfast

The capital and largest city of Northern Ireland, in the eastern part of the country on Belfast Lough, an inlet of the North Channel of the Irish Sea. After many years of conflict between Catholics and Protestants, a major peace settlement was signed here in 1998. Population: 277,000.
