Position Trader Definition

A futures trader who holds onto his or her investment for a long period of time, perhaps even for several months or longer. Position traders are looking to make money from strong fundamental changes in the market, rather than short-term price moves. Position traders may attempt to take advantage of the spread between prices for different delivery months for the same commodity.
