American chemist. He won a 1954 Nobel Prize for work on the nature of chemical bonding and the 1962 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts toward disarmament.
American chemist noted for his work on the structure and nature of chemical bonding. By applying quantum physics to chemistry, he discovered the structure of many molecules found in living tissue, especially proteins and amino acids. Pauling also discovered the genetic defect that causes sickle cell anemia. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for chemistry in 1954.
