Pioneers in the aviation industry, they constructed
the first airplane, which remained aloft for less than a minute in Kitty Hawk,
North Carolina in 1903. They patented their invention, built improved planes,
and continued studying flight techniques. Prior to entering aviation, they
owned a bicycle shop in Dayton, Ohio.
