Origin of Winston-Salema merging of two towns, after Major Joseph Winston (1746-1815) and amp; Salem
A city of north-central North Carolina near Greensboro and High Point. The original towns of Winston and Salem merged in 1913 and together became a center of tobacco and textile production. Salem, the older of the two, was founded as a Moravian religious community in 1766.
