undernet - Computer Definition
Dates back to the 1990s when an IRC (Internet Relay Chat) network separated from the main IRC network. At present, the undernet is one of the largest real-time chat networks in the world, with about 41 servers connecting more than 13 countries and serving more than 100,000 clients at any time.

By 2005, the network was set up with over 40 servers handling more than a dozen countries and over 100,000 simultaneous users at any given time of day.
