What Is the Address of the Empire State Building?

If you ask anyone in New York City where the Empire State Building is, they’ll probably either point up and say, “Right there,” or they’ll tell you it’s the really tall building on 34th and 5th, but what is the address of the Empire State Building? The mailing address of the Empire State Building is 350 5th Avenue, New York, NY 10018. If you want to call, dial (212) 736-3100. But you are probably looking to get to the Empire State Building, not send them a postcard.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one. A tourist asks a New Yorker, “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?” The New Yorker replies, “Practice, practice, practice.” There are no corny jokes about how to get to the Empire State Building; there’s just the subway. And you don’t need to practice; you just need a couple of bucks for a MetroCard, which you can purchase in any NYC subway station.

To get to the Empire State Building by subway, take any of the yellow (N, R, Q, W) or orange (B, D, F, V) lines to 34th Street/Herald Square. Walk one block east on 34th street to 5th Avenue. Turn right onto 5th Avenue, and the main entrance to the Empire State Building will be on your right.

You can also take a 1, 2 or 3 train (red lines) to 34th Street/Penn Station. From there, you’ll walk two blocks east on 34th Street to 5th Avenue, take a right, and the entrance will be on the right.

If you’re up in Times Square and want to walk, it’s not too far. Just head south on Broadway until you get to 34th Street. Take a left on 34th, a right on 5th Ave., and once again, it’s there on the right.

If you’re in Central Park, it’s a bit of a hike, but all you do is walk south on 5th Ave. until you get to the door of the Empire State Building on your right. And you can do some window shopping along the way.

Why Do I Need the Address of the Empire State Building? Isn’t It Big and Obvious?

From just about anywhere in Manhattan, all you have to do is look up, and the Empire State Building is easy to find, but once you’re within a few blocks of it, all the buildings are so tall that they start to look the same. And when you’re walking along 34th Street right beside the Empire State Building, you don’t even realize that’s what it is. It just looks like every other building. One New Yorker did her banking for months at the Bank of America branch located inside the Empire State Building before she realized that’s where she was.

One More Time, What Is the Address of the Empire State Building?
