Terminate and Stay Resident
Terminate and
Stay Resident (TSR)
Hacker Definition
A catch-all phrase for software that
runs in the background while an individual is using a computer. A good example
of a TSR is a virus scanner application that will start up and then stay in the
background waiting for some application to manifest virus-like behavior. When
this behavior occurs, the virus scanner activates a warning to the user.
