To convert from one format to another. In video processing, it might be necessary to convert a file from VHS to Moving Pictures Experts Group (MPEG) format. In voice, it might be necessary to convert a speech signal from adaptive differential pulse code modulation (ADPCM) format to pulse code modulation (PCM) format, or vice versa.Transcoding typically is performed in a digital signal processor (DSP).
