  1. Synonymous with traffic shaper. See traffic shaper.
  2. The equally inexact practice of assigning virtual circuits to paths, and priorities to traffic on those circuits, in order to provide various levels of Quality of Service (QoS). See also path, QoS, traffic, and virtual circuit.
