superrate

superrate definition - telecom
A rate higher than the normal rate. A time division multiplexer typically derives multiple 64kbps voice grade channels from a circuit. If a data application requires more bandwidth, a sufficiently sophisticated mux can group multiple channels into a superrate channel. See also subrate and TDM.
