subnetting definition - telecom
A technique that enables a network administrator to divide a single private Internet Protocol (IP) network into multiple smaller logical subnetworks by subdividing the host address into a subnetwork address and host address. Routers establish borders between subnets. See also IP, router, and subnet mask.
