A protocol that encapsulates PPP frames in ATM Adaptation Layer 5 (AAL5). PPPoA is used primarily in cable modems, wireless devices, and ADSL broadband local loops for Internet access and is specified in RFC 2364. In an ADSL implementation, PPPoA is employed in the local loop between the customer premises equipment (CPE) and the DSL access multiplexer (DSLAM).
