pair-gain definition - telecom
Referring to a local loop transmission system that uses concentrators or multiplexers to serve one or more subscribers with fewer twisted pairs than would otherwise be required. Digital loop carrier (DLC) and asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) are examples of pair-gain systems. See also ADSL, concentrator, DLC, local loop, multiplexer, and twisted pair.
