mode filter

mode filter definition - telecom
A device that attenuates high-order modes in an optical fiber. As high-order modes can be lost in the cladding and, therefore, serve no useful purpose, a mode filter essentially strips them out of the transmitted signal. See also attenuation, high-order mode, and optical fiber.
