modal dispersion definition - telecom
The dispersion, or spreading, of an optical pulse in multimode fiber (MMF) due to the multiple modes, or paths, along which the signal components can propagate. Modal dispersion is a type of intersymbol interference (ISI). See pulse dispersion for more detail. See also dispersion, ISI, and MMF.
