message waiting definition - telecom
A condition in which a voice message has been deposited in a voice mail system and is available for the telephone system (key telephone system (KTS), PBX, or Centrex system) user to retrieve.The voice messaging system advises the user of the message waiting by one of several means such Partial Mesh: 8 Nodes 9 Circuits Full Mesh: 8 Nodes 28 Circuits as lighting a message waiting lamp on the station set, causing the telephone system to provide stuttered dial tone when the user lifts the handset to place a call, or perhaps ringing the station periodically.
