IP Captioned Telephone Service definition - telecom
A hybrid Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) that involves a special telephone with a text display. Rather than using TTY or computer technology for text entry, the called partys speech is re-voiced by the communications assistant (CA), converted into text by a voice recognition system, and transmitted directly to the hearing-impaired callers display telephone over the Internet.The CA can simultaneously listen to one party and read the text of the other party.
