interLATA

interLATA definition - telecom
Referring to a long distance call between Local Access and Transport Areas (LATAs). In the United States, LATA boundaries were defined in the Modified Final Judgement (MFJ) that broke up the AT&T Bell System on January 1, 1984. The Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs) and their component Bell Operating Companies (BOCs) initially were prevented from offering interLATA toll services. See also BOC, LATA, MFJ, and RBOC.
