hyperlink definition - telecom
A characteristic or property of an element (e.g., symbol, word, phrase, sentence, or image) in a document that points to and causes to display another document when the user clicks it with a mouse. In a hypertext system, such a linked element is underlined, bolded, or otherwise emphasized to indicate to the user that a link to another document is available. Hyperlinks are created through the use of programming languages such as SGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language) and HTML (Hypertext Markup Language). See also HTML, hypertext, and SGML.
