gTLD definition - telecom
In the Internet Domain Name System (DNS), the rightmost portion of the address -- the domain -- identifies the type of entity owning or sponsoring the address. The several types of Top Level Domains (TLDs) include generic Top Level Domains (gTLDs) and country codes (ccTLDs). If a country code is used in the address, the gTLD becomes a secondary domain.The original gTLDs are unsponsored, meaning that they operate under policies established by the global Internet community, directly through the administration process of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).The original gTLDs and their intended use are as follows:
